What is there beyond chocolate? Super-chocolate? Uberschokolade? Sex, drugs and music?
Beyond Chocolate is actually aimed at helping people stop yo-yo dieting (among other things) and last night I went to their book launch. There was some very nifty chocolate-based catering on show.
Chocolate fairies using ingredients from Rococo had made pear and ginger cups, creme de marrons cups, lemon, coffee and chocolate fairy cakes and walnut brownies. Also fantastic chocolate ganache sandwiches made with brioche. To drink, as well as wine, there was Youngs (if only they were still a London brewery) double chocolate stout.
Damian Allsop, previously of Melt, and now of Xochocolates (can't find a weblink) had worked some magic on some mini raspberry cups. Elsewhere there were some fantastic white chocolate and berry slabs.
And, oh yes, my favourite of all of this, some chocolate based drinks - a Venezualan hot chocolate shot and a vodka/vermouth/chocolate 'martini' shot. I tasted the hot chocolate and thought I recognised it . . . why, of course, the Brick Lane chocolate van! I occasionally visited this during winter and spring and had wondered where it had gone. Petra from Choc Star explained that she'd been visiting festivals over the summer, but she'd be back in Brick Lane soon. I'm very pleased about this. What I hadn't realised is that she trained with Pierre Marcolini.
Well done to Beyond Chocolate!
