A couple of nights ago I got back from the pub (more about that in another post soon) and checked my email. In my slightly inebriated state an invitation to buy a new Heston Blumenthal book from Amazon was irresistible. This morning, 'The Perfect Marriage, a book about food and sherry matching, arrived.
Of course, in my worse-for-wear book ordering frenzy I'd failed to notice that this was merely a compilation . . . and what's more it seems some kind of Sherry PR people have had a hand in it. And Blumenthal doesn't contribute any recipes, just an introduction and a couple of pages on specific flavour matches. Harrumph. But take a closer look, there are some very good chefs in this book - Fergus Henderson (Pig's Head goes with Amontillado apparently), Shane Osborne (offering a bitter sweet chocolate tartlet with caramelised hazelnuts paired with a PX sherry) and Anthony Flinn (offering a delightfully complex 'milk pot' paired with Fino) to name a few. Then I saw that all these chefs are contributing their royalty fees to Parkinson's Appeal. So, a good buy for a good cause.
Oh yes, if you do want the Blumenthal sherry recipes you can get them over here.
