I am ever so slightly lost for words about the news that people are seriously considering feeding bits of dead animals to industrially farmed livestock again. The suggestion comes from the European Economic and Social Committee, a body made up of businesses, trade unions and other people who apparently can't see what an obvious aberration this is, even when confronted with the fact that the last time something like this was tried cows went mad, people died and lots of farmers went out of business. I can just about picture the scene...
Accountant 1: I've had this call from Pigs and Poultry Inc. They don't know what to do with the carcases of their dead animals.
Accountant 2: You mean spent nutrition unit residue?
Accountant 1: Sorry, yes. The SNUR. Anyway, they don't know what to do with it.
Accountant 2: Well, it's obvious isn't it? Feed it to the viable nutrition units.
Accountant 1: Of course, why didn't I think of that? That's what would happen in the wild isn't it?
Accountant 2: The what?
Accountant 1: But what if they won't eat it?
Accountant 2: We'll mix it up with ash and other stuff so until it tastes like the rubbish they're eating now.
Accountant 1: OK. Cool... Hang on. What about all that nasty business with the cows going mad and those bloody poor people suing us when they started having funny turns?
Accountant 2: Ah yes. Good point. Tell you what, let's feed the dead pigs to the chickens and the dead chickens to the pigs.
Accountant 1: Do you know, I think you've got it. Genius!
Accountant 2: Fancy a spot of lunch?
Accountant 1: KFC?
Accountant 2: Lovely.
Truly mad. Steady in the buffs, chum.

Thanks John. Glad you agree. At least I assume that's what you mean...
