Just a quick post today about a foodie feast a week or so ago at Hereford Road. It was my first trip to the restaurant but it definitely won't be my last, and not just because my mate Neil lives round the corner. A full review can wait till the next visit, perhaps (any excuse to go back). But a day after clocks went back, there's a chill in the air and the chap who came round this morning to fit my new boiler is not sure the heating will be back on tonight. Is it any wonder my thoughts keep going back to this amazing winter warmer of a dish, one of several whole oxtails that graced the table last week?
These razor clams were not half bad, either...
Big thanks for Sam for organising a great night out.

Thanks Sam. Beat me to it!
To expand a little, the main thing that lifts it above any other cut of slow-cooked beef is the velvety texture. I'm not going to try to describe it in detail: I suggest either buying some (it's cheap!) and following a decent recipe (the Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall one in the Meat book is very good) or getting your self over to Hereford Road, where it's usually on the menu as far as I can tell.

Oooh, razor clams! Last time I had these in London was at Arbutus - wish we saw more of them on menus. And as for oxtail - it tastes like particularly unctuous, sticky beef casserole. Heaven.
